Child Obesity Even On Famished Land
Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011What Are The Risk Factors
Beware; child obesity may be eating your child alive without you knowing it. Unless you are living inside a rock, you have seen how many lives were wasted because of obesity, how many families lost their loved ones from this dreaded disease, and how many children were robbed by the ability to play and enjoy life because of this crippling sickness. Sadly, everyone is at risk. Obesity attacks everyone: poor or rich, famous or ordinary, girl or boy, white or black—everyone.
Interestingly, child obesity is an eminent danger even on 3rd world countries such as Africa. Over the last few years, the amount of African children who succumbed into this illness had tripled. This occurrence allowed us to see that obesity is not about overeating alone, but it is about poor eating habit, the wrong choice of food, and the pursuance of sedentary lifestyle. Asia is no difference because studies also showed how their children shifted from wearing size small to XL shirts.
Children are not the only one to blame. Sometimes, the blaming could be pointed to the economy of the place. These countries are known to consume high energy foods that contain relatively low amount of vitamins and minerals. In short, these people eat in order to survive. They eat anything, whether it is healthy or not. Their condition can allow them to eat sugary and fatty food because these are much cheaper than the healthy alternative.
Nevertheless, parents could be blamed too. These are countries were low breastfeeding rate is observed. Poor nutrition among children can lead them to become overweight in the future. Those who were born with low birth weight are also those who possess high amount of chance in developing obesity. You should be concern about this.
What can we do? Sensible eating habit must be fostered. Parents should be taught about the need for breastfeeding and proper nutrition. Yes, choosing healthy food may be expensive but let us not forget that there are cheaper foods that may be available for free. Take the case of vegetables and fruits that we can grow at our backyard. Through them, child obesity is an off-limit in your household.
